Publishing Options

Well, my girlfriend just gave me the idea to publish my book as an audiobook, so I thought I'd add that to the list of ideas here for publishing options.

Apparently, according to her, many people don't have time to read and prefer to listen to audiobooks while performing other tasks.

This could be a good option for many people looking to publish their books or financial guides, and if not a stand-alone option, then as an alternative option for people looking to purchase your book otherwise.

Now, I'm not sure yet where one goes to publish an audiobook, but I've been following Jaime's post about the Eventual Millionaire Podcast, so maybe iTunes is an option for a single audiobook as well, or you could even turn your audiobook into a Podcast if you did it chapter by chapter, or something like that, which might be good for financial guides that are step-by-step, one chapter at a time.

Here's Jaime's post:

Anyway, I think this would work out for my fiction pretty well, as I like to do voices also, so I could really act out the characters.

Anywho, just food for thought, figured I'd bump this post again, what the heck.

I definitely would go with a digital book. I think Amazon and Lulu would be the best ways to make money from it. They both rank pretty high in search engines.

I also have had plans to write some eBooks – and also some training materials some day…

No one mentioned Scribd.  I uploaded a checklist there http://www.scribd.com/doc/5285…..-Checklist but it keeps getting messed up in the body of it – haven't had time yet to explore what is going one with their support.

Any comments on use of scribd?

I'm really enjoying reading the responses to this topic – thanks to everyone for your informative posts! So far I've only published books traditionally, but I'm kicking around the idea of self publishing a Happy Simple Living cookbook. Also, Booklocker is another print-on-demand publisher I've heard good things about, and they offer Ebooks as well as paper books.

Thought I'd throw out a great resource Elize (Happy Simple Living) recommended to me, Bulletproof Book Proposals by Brodowsky and Neuhaus. Good tips for the traditional route.

Hey all,

Thanks for all the tips!  Laugh  So many different options.  Wonder if physical books will go the way of the CD and Blockbuster.  Confused

I have a book "More Podcast Money" and it cost about $300 to create (editor) and I have finally broken even. I sell it as a PDF for $19. It's been out for a few months. I promote it with my podcasts. If you want to get into Amazon, you need a good cover, ISBN, Library of Congress Numbers (if you want to do it right). It ends up costing you close to a grand and Amazon doesn't pay much. You pray that the volume of Amazon makes up for the low profit. This goes back to what someone previously said, writing the book is about 30% of the work, promoting the book is what is important. Check out Peggy DeKay's book http://www.peggydekay.com/ self publishing for virgins. I've read probably 5 or 6 books on writing yoru first book. This book was just awesome.
